Santorini waste management project enters second phase

The South Aegean Region has officially entered the second phase of the tender for the Integrated Waste Management System (ISWM) for Santorini. This phase involves a competitive dialogue with four pre-selected consortia: Mytilineos (Metlen)–Mesogeios, Intrakat (Aktor Group)–Watt, More–Avax–Thalis, and Terna Energy.

The project, with an estimated development budget of €26.5 million, covers the entire lifecycle of the waste management system, including study, financing, construction, maintenance, and operation. The proposed contract duration is estimated at up to 27 years, comprising approximately 24 months for studies, licensing, and construction, followed by 25 years of operation.

The facility will include a waste processing unit for mixed residual waste and recyclables, a composting unit for organic waste, and a sanitary landfill for residues. This initiative aims to meet national and European environmental targets for solid urban waste management. The deadline for submitting participation files is September 30, 2026.
