Santos adds QR‑code parking payments as Brazil and Portugal expand digital vehicle services
In Santos, Brazil, the Zona Azul parking system now offers displayers with QR Codes at at least 20 commercial locations, letting drivers activate electronic credits without registering or installing an app. Users simply scan the code, enter the licence plate, select the desired parking time or credit amount and pay via Pix. The system also introduced a direct 30‑minute minimum parking period.
Lisbon’s public‑transport operator Carris Metropolitana will launch the navigante® mobile app in January, enabling passengers to validate trips with their smartphones. The app will appear on iOS and Android stores and initially serve Carris users, with other operators slated to join in early 2026. A parallel pilot, navigante® Empresas, tests post‑paid digital passes that charge automatically without a manual top‑up.
Rio de Janeiro’s traffic authority has published the 2026 vehicle‑licensing calendar: plates ending 0‑2 must be regularized by 31 July, 3‑5 by 31 August, and 6‑9 by 30 September. The fintech Zapay provides a digital platform for drivers to check and pay all vehicle‑related debts, including licensing fees, through its app, allowing installment payments via credit card.
