Santos advances flood prevention project with new pumping station construction
Construction has entered a new phase for the Pumping Station with Gates 6 (EEC6) in the Saboó district of Santos, São Paulo. The project involves the installation of reinforced concrete diaphragm walls, which will reach depths of 40 meters to prevent soil collapses and groundwater infiltration.
Part of the ‘Santos Mais’ macro-drainage program, the R$ 153.3 million project aims to mitigate flooding in the Northwest Zone, particularly during heavy rainfall and high tides. The station will feature eight diesel-powered vertical motor-pump sets capable of emptying an Olympic-sized swimming pool in two minutes.
The project is funded primarily by the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), providing R$ 149.2 million, with the remainder covered by the municipality. The reservoir itself will cover an area of 1,300 square meters.
