Santos FC reaches Copa Sudamericana round of 16, set to face Macará

Santos FC defeated Universidad Central 4‑2 in the second leg at Vila Belmiro on 28 July 2026, securing an 8‑3 aggregate win and qualifying for the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana. The Brazilian side will meet Ecuadorian club Macará in the upcoming knockout stage.

Neymar entered the match as a second‑half substitute, and his involvement was highlighted alongside goals from Miguelito, Gabriel Barbosa, Gabriel Menino and Rony. Goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão said he feels “100 % physically and mentally” after coping with his father's death.

The match attracted a large TV audience, with SBT recording 2.3 million viewers in Greater São Paulo. After the game, Edwin Mosquera kissed Neymar on the neck, a video that amassed more than two million views in the first hour. Former player Roger Flores called the criticism of Neymar “cowardly”.

Ticket pre‑sale for the first‑leg encounter in Ambato shows limited seats remaining, confirming high public interest in the historic Santos‑Macará tie.
