Santos authorities flag irregular waste disposal in two locations

The Secretariat of Regional Municipalities (Sepref) in Santos identified two instances of irregular waste disposal on Saturday. The incidents occurred at the intersection of Rua Antônio Bento and Rua Carvalho de Mendonça in Vila Belmiro, and at the intersection of Rua do Comércio and Praça da República in the central region.

In Vila Belmiro, a cart was caught dumping construction debris, cardboard, wood, aluminum, and paint cans. The property owner arranged for cleaning the same day, avoiding a fine. In the central region, inspections triggered by complaints revealed a container being used to illegally discard organic waste, including meat. The responsible commercial establishment was instructed by the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) and Sepref to remove the materials and ensure proper disposal.

Authorities have intensified inspections to prevent waste from entering urban drainage systems. Improperly discarded construction debris and organic matter can clog storm drains during rain, contributing to flooding, and can also pose sanitary risks.
