Santos Dumont Airport authorized for new hotel development
The Brazilian Ministry of Ports and Airports has authorized Infraero to grant the use of an area at Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro for the construction of a hotel. The project is expected to cover approximately 11,800 square meters.
To facilitate the necessary large-scale investments for construction and operation, the authorization allows for a 20-year contract, which exceeds the standard duration typically applied to commercial contracts at Infraero-managed terminals. Any future modifications to the contract will require prior approval from the National Civil Aviation Secretariat (SAC).
The authorization also includes provisions for a potential future private concession of the airport. Should the terminal be transferred to a private operator, the hotel contract must be maintained under its established conditions, and the new operator will be required to assume all obligations related to the project until the end of the term.
