Santos Escobar discusses WWE release and Nick Khan conversation

Former WWE Superstar Santos Escobar has opened up about his April 2026 release from the company, describing the experience as heartbreaking. Escobar, who had recently undergone surgery for a tricep injury and an ulnar nerve issue, noted that the timing of his departure—just days after his second surgery—was particularly difficult.

Escobar compared the feeling of his release to the infamous ‘Trash Bag Gate’ incident involving Mickie James, where personal items were reportedly returned in garbage bags. While he expressed a desire not to burn bridges with the promotion, he stated, “That’s how I felt.”

In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Escobar also detailed the circumstances that led to his previous re-signing with WWE. After allowing his contract to expire in October 2025, he was personally contacted by WWE President Nick Khan. Khan reportedly apologized for the handling of Escobar’s character and promised to involve Triple H to ensure he had the necessary support to thrive. Despite these assurances, Escobar was ultimately released in April 2026.
