Santos FC considers statute reform and potential SAF transition
Santos FC is moving toward potential structural changes, including a possible transformation into a Sociedade Anônima do Futebol (SAF). The club has called on associates to vote on a statute reform that would increase the maximum allowable sale of shares from 49% to 80%, potentially opening the door for major investors.
While the reform is being voted on, club leadership has indicated that any decision regarding a sale will not be finalized under the current administration, with a timeline extending toward 2027. Current president Marcelo Teixeira is reportedly in discussions with the American company SDC Sports regarding a potential sale valued at R$ 2 billion. Under such a proposal, half of the funds would be used to settle club debts, while the remaining half would be allocated for investments.
In parallel, the club is managing player contract uncertainties. Football director Alexandre Mattos noted that the futures of key players, including Neymar and Gabigol, remain under evaluation. Neymar’s contract runs until December 2026, requiring new financial terms for a renewal, while Gabigol’s situation involves negotiations between Santos and his parent club, Cruzeiro. The club’s upcoming presidential election in December is expected to influence long-term planning and player negotiations.
