Santos FC advances to Copa Sudamericana quarter-finals

Santos FC has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Copa Sudamericana following a 0-0 draw against Macará at the Bellavista Stadium in Ambato, Ecuador. Having won the first leg 2-1 at Vila Belmiro, the Brazilian side secured their progression with a 3-2 aggregate score.

Playing at an altitude of approximately 2,500 meters, Santos utilized an alternative lineup, resting key players such as Neymar and Gabigol. Despite the physical challenges and a difficult pitch, the team's defense remained solid. Goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão made several critical saves to prevent Macará from scoring, particularly during the first half.

Coach Cuca praised the defensive performance, describing it as “perfect from beginning to end.” With this victory, Santos moves on to face Atlético-MG in the next round. The club also earns a prize of approximately US$ 700,000 for the advancement.
