Santos FC, historic world super‑champion, eyes Neymar’s role after World Cup

On 24 June 1969 Santos Futebol Clube defeated Internazionale 1‑0 at Milan’s San Siro, securing the Recopa Mundial de 1968 and becoming the only inter‑club world super‑champion in football history. The victory was witnessed by 44,774 spectators and followed Santos’ successful campaign in the South American qualifying phase.

In 2024 the club began its preseason with a 3‑0 friendly win over União São João at Pacaembu. Coach Cuca said there is no current plan for star forward Neymar; the decision will wait until Brazil’s World Cup run ends and Neymar’s rest and schedule are clarified. He noted the possibility of Neymar returning for Santos after the tournament and referenced the upcoming knockout match against Norway in New Jersey.
