Santos FC receives US$ 2.5 million from Sharjah FC for JP Chermont transfer
Santos FC has received a payment of US$ 2.5 million (approximately R$ 12.6 million) from the United Arab Emirates-based club Sharjah FC. The funds correspond to the fixed portion of the transfer of right-back JP Chermont.
The payment follows several weeks of delay. Sharjah FC had previously requested more time to complete the transaction, citing cash flow issues, and asked Santos not to escalate the matter to FIFA. The total deal could reach US$ 3.5 million if performance-based bonuses are met. During negotiations, Chermont reduced his economic rights share, allowing Santos to increase its stake from 75% to 80%.
The influx of capital provides immediate relief for Santos as the club seeks to settle overdue image rights for its athletes. However, the club continues to face financial challenges, including four FIFA blocks related to debts exceeding R$ 15 million owed to former coach Pedro Caixinha.
