Sanwa District hosts inaugural Marugoto Mikaku Festival

The inaugural ‘Sanwa Marugoto Mikaku Festival’ was held on October 25 at the Sanwa Fureai Hall in Sanwa District, Joetsu City. Organized by a local executive committee, the event aimed to promote the region's agricultural products and traditional performing arts.

Twenty-three local organizations participated, offering a variety of goods including newly harvested rice, vegetables, chestnuts, grapes, and processed items such as miso. In addition to the food offerings, the festival featured cultural performances, including the ‘Echigo Sanwa Ondo’ and the ‘Shishimai Kagura’ lion dance, which has been passed down in the Shimakura settlement since the Edo period.

Organizers noted that the event was prepared since June last year using local budget projects. The committee expressed interest in making the festival an annual occurrence to further showcase the diverse offerings of the Sanwa District.
