SAP CEO Christian Klein warns AI threatens business model
SAP chief executive Christian Klein told the Süddeutsche Zeitung that emerging artificial‑intelligence firms are putting the German software giant’s traditional subscription model under pressure. He said the company’s share price has fallen sharply, now roughly a third below its level a year earlier, and that SAP must act quickly to avoid a dependence on US and Chinese AI technologies.
To counter the threat, SAP plans to recruit 400‑500 new data scientists and expects AI to boost software‑development productivity by about 30 %. Klein also highlighted the need for a stronger performance culture, calling for open, respectful feedback and the ability to address under‑performance directly. He noted that SAP employs roughly 112 000 people worldwide and is working with Deutsche Telekom on a government‑commissioned citizen app that will let users register changes of residence or vehicle online.
