SAP environments face critical DevSecOps security gaps
The DevSecOps market is projected to reach $37 billion by 2035 as organizations integrate security throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC). While DevSecOps aims to accelerate vulnerability remediation and reduce deployment times, a significant security gap has emerged regarding SAP environments.
Despite SAP customers generating 84 percent of total global commerce, security teams often fail to apply DevSecOps principles to these systems. SAP environments operate on complex, monolithic architectures that prioritize stability, making them harder to patch than microservices. Currently, it takes an average of 97 days to test and deploy SAP patches, whereas cybercriminals can weaponize new vulnerabilities in as little as 72 hours. Research indicates a 210 percent increase in the active exploitation of SAP vulnerabilities between 2024 and 2025.
Effective DevSecOps implementation involves ‘shifting left’—integrating security checks early in the pipeline to catch flaws during the coding stage. This process includes stages such as source control, secret scanning to prevent leaked API keys, CI orchestration, and Static Application Security Testing (SAST) to identify flaws like SQL injection before deployment.
