SAP launches AI‑driven ‘Autonomous Enterprise’ platform with Joule Work at Sapphire 2026
At the Sapphire 2026 customer conference in Orlando, SAP CEO Christian Klein presented the company’s vision of an “Autonomous Enterprise.” The centerpiece is Joule Work, a headless user interface that replaces traditional screen forms and Fiori tiles with a natural‑language assistant capable of interpreting user intent and executing ERP tasks autonomously. A desktop version of Joule Work will run independently on users’ workstations, allowing AI agents to access local files and, for example, generate PowerPoint presentations directly from SAP financial data.
The move extends SAP’s earlier headless UI concept—initially seen in the Spartacus e‑commerce solution—to the core of S/4 HANA, shifting the system of record toward a system of execution driven by artificial intelligence. Analysts note the announcement raises the classic “Innovator’s Dilemma,” questioning whether SAP is reshaping its business model or merely adding AI as a layer over existing licensing structures.
