SAP users show reluctance toward full cloud migration

A survey by the German-speaking SAP User Group (DSAG) reveals significant hesitation among enterprises regarding full cloud migration. While approximately 70 percent of surveyed companies are currently undergoing or have completed their transition to S/4HANA, 55 percent of DSAG members continue to run their core S/4HANA systems on their own servers. Only four percent currently utilize a pure public cloud model.

Key concerns driving this reluctance include the risk of vendor lock-in, data protection issues, and a lack of transparency regarding licensing and pricing models. Users are calling for more reliable migration paths and clearer support timelines.

In response to these challenges, industry discussions emphasize the importance of digital sovereignty and the need for flexible infrastructure. Companies are seeking to avoid being constrained by rigid hyperscaler models, with an increasing focus on private cloud solutions and exit strategies to maintain control over their own data and technological direction.
