Gaziosmanpaşa authorities seize 15 tons of spoiled meat

Health and agriculture inspection teams in the Gaziosmanpaşa district of Istanbul have seized 15 tons of spoiled meat and meat products to prevent them from entering the food supply. During inspections across 16 neighborhoods, officials discovered meat with heavy odors, frozen products that had begun to thaw, and items in direct contact with the ground.

Investigators noted that storage temperatures were inadequate and hygiene standards were not being met. Although some operators claimed the meat scraps were intended for soap production or animal feed, the discovery of meat grinders led authorities to suspect the products might be processed into minced meat for human consumption.

As a result of the inspections of 1,873 businesses, 153 companies faced administrative fines and 16 establishments were sealed. Investigations have been launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry regarding the legal violations.
