SAPASA removes 11,000 tons of waste from Mexico’s Presa Madín

The Sistema de Agua Potable, Alcantarillado y Saneamiento (SAPASA) of Atizapán carried out extensive cleaning operations at Presa Madín. By early 2026 the agency had extracted roughly 11,000 tons of solid waste and more than 193,000 cubic meters of silt from the reservoir and nearby streams.

The effort, coordinated with OAPAS Naucalpan, the National Water Commission (Conagua), the Organismo de Cuenca Aguas del Valle de México (OCAVM) and civil‑society groups such as Nacel Arcoiris, aimed to reduce flood risk and restore water flow for the communities of Atizapán, Naucalpan and Tlalnepantla. Over 125 clean‑up sessions were completed, improving water quality, lowering the chance of dam overtopping and supporting regional water supply.

Officials urged residents to avoid discarding trash in streets and drains, noting that most debris reaches the reservoir via runoff. The campaign is part of SAPASA’s broader “Sigamos Creciendo” initiative to promote environmental awareness and secure reliable water provision for thousands of families.
