Sapezal enacts new laws to protect women's rights

The municipality of Sapezal has sanctioned two new laws aimed at strengthening the protection and rights of women. These legislative measures were developed through the collaborative efforts of the Municipal Women's Protection Network.

The first law establishes the Organismo de Políticas Públicas para Mulheres (OPM), a structure designed to coordinate and execute public policies, promote gender equality, and integrate various public agencies.

The second law focuses on providing assistance and protection to women who are victims of harassment or are in high-risk situations within commercial establishments. It mandates mechanisms for support, empathy, and rapid assistance.

The Sapezal Prosecution Office noted that these measures are particularly significant given that the state of Mato Grosso currently holds the highest rate of femicides in the region.
