Sapientia University to host History Remix competition in Cluj-Napoca

Sapientia University (Sapientia EMTE) is organizing ‘History Remix’, an intercultural historical competition for high school students, to be held in Cluj-Napoca on November 13–14. The event aims to foster understanding between Romanian and Hungarian students by exploring their shared Transylvanian identity and diverse historical perspectives.

Twenty-two teams from five counties—Cluj, Maramureș, Alba, Bistrița-Năsăud, and Hunedoara—have registered for the competition. Participants will research and present the lives of significant historical figures from various backgrounds, including Romanian, Hungarian, and Saxon heritages. Featured figures include Bishop Áron Márton, composer Gheorghe Dima, politician Petru Groza, and physicist Hermann Oberth.

Originally launched in 2018 for local Cluj schools, the competition has expanded its scope. Organizers expect between 150 and 200 students and teachers to participate. The initiative seeks to encourage students to look beyond textbook knowledge and engage more deeply with the multifaceted history and daily lives of the different communities in the region.
