Sapienza University presents Holy Sepulchre restoration progress in Jerusalem
Antonella Polimeni, Rector of Sapienza University of Rome, visited Jerusalem to present the progress of an archaeological research and restoration project for the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The presentation was held at the Custody of the Holy Land with religious community leaders.
The multidisciplinary mission, led scientifically by Professor Francesca Romana Stasolla alongside Professor Pietro Vannicelli, involves archaeologists, historians, philologists, and experts in diagnostics and archeometry. The project focuses on field activities, documentation, and interpretation.
During the visit, Polimeni was received in a private audience by Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem. She also met with Father Francesco Ielpo, Custodian of the Holy Land, and Domenico Bellato, the Italian Consul General in Jerusalem, to reinforce the relationship between the university, religious communities, and Italian institutions.
