SAPPE warns of safety risks in Reggio Calabria prisons

The Autonomous Union of Penitentiary Police (SAPPE) has raised alarms regarding safety and working conditions within the prisons of Reggio Calabria, specifically at the San Pietro and Arghillà facilities.

In the San Pietro prison, the union reported significant hazards in the control room (sala regia). Reported issues include improperly channeled electrical cables, unsecured power supplies, and overheating electronic equipment. SAPPE also highlighted ergonomic concerns, noting that the monitor arrangements and seating provided to operators may compromise staff health and the high levels of attention required for surveillance duties. The union is calling for immediate administrative intervention to ensure compliance with workplace health and safety regulations.
