Saprissa mourns former striker Tássio Maia as club prepares for San Carlos clash

Former Saprissa forward Tássio Maia, who played for the club in 2018, died after a wall collapsed on him when a gust of wind blew it down. Former teammate Juan Gabriel Guzmán described Maia as humble, hardworking and a good companion, recalling their years together in the Saprissa locker room.

The club will host San Carlos on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Ricardo Saprissa stadium. San Carlos, newly reinstated in the top division after settling a large debt to the Costa Rican Social Security Fund, will face the defending champions in a match that will be shown on the FUTV channel and broadcast on Deportes Monumental, Teletica Radio and Deportivas Columbia. Saprissa entered the weekend after a 5‑1 victory over Pérez Zeledón and a 2‑1 win over Umecit FC in the Central American Cup.
