Saquarema announces 396th Círio de Nazareth celebrations
The city of Saquarema, in partnership with the Archdiocese of Niterói and the Parish of Our Lady of Nazareth, has announced the official schedule for the 396th Círio de Nazareth. Recognized as the oldest Círio de Nazareth in Brazil, with traditions dating back to 1630, the event is a major religious and cultural manifestation in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The celebrations are scheduled to take place over ten days, from August 30 to September 8. The festivities include a variety of activities such as masses, novenas, processions, musical performances, and sporting events, including a half-marathon and a bicycle procession.
Local authorities expect the event to draw thousands of pilgrims and tourists, providing a significant boost to the local economy by increasing activity in the hotel, restaurant, and retail sectors. Mayor Lucimar Vidal noted that the secular tradition strengthens local faith and is a vital component of the city's religious tourism.
