Saquarema shooting leaves one dead and six wounded

A shooting at a snack bar on the Itaúna waterfront in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro, left one person dead and six others wounded. The attack occurred on Friday, October 9, when four armed men in a black vehicle drove past a beach kiosk and opened fire.

Among the victims was 19-year-old South American surfing champion Rickson Falcão, who sustained grazing wounds to his back and injuries to his right foot and left leg/ankle. Falcão underwent surgery and has since been discharged from the hospital. Other athletes wounded in the incident include professional skater Pedro Magalhães Marchi, who was hit in the arm, and surfer Kauã Vilhena, who was shot in the calf.

The attack resulted in the death of Luan César Avellar Incutto Ferreira, known as “Luan de Itaúna,” who died after being transported to a municipal hospital. Police believe Ferreira was the intended target of the attack. Investigators recovered two 9mm shell casings at the scene, and the Civil Police are currently investigating the motive and circumstances of the crime.
