Journalist Sara Carbonero has shared a personal photograph on Instagram showing the surgical scars on her abdomen, following her battle with ovarian cancer. The post, which features Carbonero in Cádiz, includes a reflection on acceptance and identity, stating, “What a relief when we stop being only what happened to us.”

Carbonero was originally diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May 2019, which led to emergency surgery and chemotherapy. She later faced a recurrence that required further surgical intervention. While she had previously spoken about her illness at the ELLE x Hope gala in May 2024, this is the first time she has publicly displayed her physical scars.
