Sara Pascoe launches free reading activity packs on UK train network
Comedian Sara Pascoe partnered with four train operators—LNER, Northern, Southeastern and TransPennine Express—and the UK charity The Reading Agency to roll out a Summer Reading Challenge for children aged 4‑11. The initiative distributes tens of thousands of free activity packs on trains and at stations across the network, from Edinburgh to Margate and Newcastle to London, encouraging families to turn travel time into reading time during the summer holidays.
Each pack contains a copy of Storytime Magazine, stickers, activity sheets and a certificate. Pascoe said, “I’ve always loved reading when I’m travelling… turning travel time into reading time is a lovely, easy way to keep kids entertained this summer.” The Reading Agency highlighted research showing many parents worry about summer boredom and the cost of activities, while noting that 84% of parents believe reading benefits mental wellbeing. The campaign aligns with the government’s 2026 National Year of Reading and aims to support children’s wellbeing and confidence through accessible, affordable reading experiences on board trains.
