Sarah-Léonie Cysique evacuated on stretcher at Judo World Championships
French judoka Sarah-Léonie Cysique was evacuated on a stretcher during the -57 kg semi-finals at the World Judo Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. During her match against Japan's Akari Omori, Cysique suffered a heavy fall onto her head and neck following a harai-goshi (hip sweep) throw.
Medical staff attended to Cysique on the mat, where she was fitted with a cervical collar before being transported by ambulance to a hospital for further examination. Due to the injury, she was unable to compete for the bronze medal.
Following medical assessments, the French delegation reported that her condition is reassuring. Cysique was able to return to her team hotel that evening. Her participation in the upcoming team competition, scheduled for Sunday, remains subject to a medical re-evaluation within the next 48 hours.
