Sarah Lubala discusses exile and memory at Festivaletteratura
At the Festivaletteratura in Mantua, Congolese poet and writer Sarah Lubala discussed her work ‘Una storia di sparizione’ (A Story of Disappearance), published by Capovolte in 2025. The session, titled ‘Ciò che resta, ciò che ritorna’, explored themes of exile, memory, and the struggle against historical oblivion.
Lubala, the winner of the 2024 Ingrid Jonker Prize for best debut work, used the event to address how personal and collective trauma can be transformed into shared memory. Her narrative focuses on the lives of female figures and the persistence of identity amidst the fractures of displacement and history.
