Sarah McBride calls for new transgender activism strategies

Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) has suggested that transgender activists need to rethink their strategies following a decline in public support over the last five years. Speaking in a video for Epworth United Methodist Church titled ‘Dignity, Grace, and Better Angels,’ McBride argued that certain tactics, specifically the strategy of cutting off relationships with those who disagree, have not been effective.

McBride acknowledged that while LGBTQ individuals may need to extract themselves from hostile environments to protect their mental and physical health, she urged allies to remain in conversation with people who hold opposing views. She stated that allies should stay proximate to those who disagree in order to ‘push back’ and ‘hold them accountable.’ Her remarks have drawn criticism from users on social media platform X.
