Sarah Mitton defends shot put title, wins gold at Commonwealth Games

Canadian shot‑putter Sarah Mitton reclaimed the women's shot put crown at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, delivering a winning throw of 19.88 metres on her fifth attempt. Her performance placed her more than two metres ahead of the field, securing the gold medal for Canada.

Nigeria’s Jessica Oji earned silver with a best of 17.87 m, while Jamaica’s Lloydricia Cameron took bronze on a matching distance, winning the tiebreaker by a better secondary throw. The event was held on 29 July 2026, adding to Canada’s medal tally as the nation continued to compete across athletics, weightlifting and wheelchair basketball at the Games.
