Sarah Scazzi murder case remains in spotlight after legal appeals

The 2010 murder of 16-year-old Sarah Scazzi in Avetrana, Italy, continues to draw significant media and legal attention decades after the event. The case, which gained notoriety when the discovery of the victim's body was announced during a live television broadcast, involved complex investigations into family dynamics and conflicting confessions.

Sabrina Misseri and Cosima Serrano were convicted of aggravated voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to life imprisonment. The motive was linked to jealousy regarding a romantic interest. While Michele Misseri initially confessed and later retracted his statement, the investigation eventually located the body in a water collection well.

Recently, the European Court of Human Rights rejected an appeal filed in 2018 by Misseri and Serrano, ruling that the arguments presented by their defense were unfounded.
