Sarajevo Canton allocates 3.5 million KM to reduce medical waiting lists
The Health Insurance Institute of Sarajevo Canton has allocated over 3.5 million KM to reduce waiting lists for diagnostic examinations. Under a program developed with the Ministry of Health of Sarajevo Canton, citizens can access 17,500 individual services across 17 of the most requested types of diagnostic tests at eight contracted private healthcare facilities.
This option is available to insured individuals if public health institutions cannot provide the required service within 90 days. To exercise this right, patients must provide a specialist's recommendation, a family doctor's confirmation with the referral date, and documentation from a competent institution stating the appointment is scheduled for more than 90 days away. Once documentation is submitted to an institute branch, the Institute issues a consent form specifying the facility where the exam will be performed, aiming to ensure patients receive necessary diagnostics within 30 days of receiving consent.
