Sarajevo Canton implements new emergency patient protocol

The Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Health has implemented a new Protocol for the Care of Urgent Patients. This inter-institutional document aims to streamline the journey of life-threatening cases through the healthcare system, ensuring that patients do not lose critical time due to unclear jurisdictions or unnecessary transfers.

The protocol connects primary healthcare, the Institute for Emergency Medical Aid, the Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš General Hospital, and the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo. It defines a clear path from initial assessment, diagnosis, and stabilization to definitive treatment.

Health Minister Enis Hasanović stated that the protocol was developed over a year by medical professionals to ensure the right patient reaches the right facility at the right time. The initiative follows an analysis of existing challenges in triage, referral, and transport processes.
