Sarajevo Canton prepares for flu season as respiratory viruses rise
Health officials in Sarajevo Canton report an increase in respiratory viruses, though the official influenza season has not yet begun. While waiting rooms in health centers are currently full, most patients are presenting with milder respiratory infections rather than the flu.
Arman Šarkić, spokesperson for the Sarajevo Canton Health Center, noted that respiratory viruses typically present with milder symptoms and shorter durations compared to influenza. In contrast, the flu is characterized by a sudden onset of high fever, malaise, joint pain, and headaches. The peak of the flu season is expected in January and February.
Dr. Elvedin Tatarević, Director of the Sarajevo Canton Health Center, announced that approximately 7,540 flu vaccines have been ordered and are expected to arrive in late October or early November. Citizens will be notified of vaccination locations and availability once the supplies arrive. The health center is organizationally and staff-ready for the immunization process.
