Sarajevo court orders RTVFBiH to pay BHRT over 300,000 KM

The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo has issued its first legally binding verdict regarding a long-standing dispute between Bosnia and Herzegovina’s public broadcasters, BHRT and RTVFBiH.

Following a lawsuit filed by BHRT in 2022 for a total of 1,248,139 KM, the court awarded BHRT 304,598 KM in damages, plus 173,317 KM in default interest. The court rejected the remainder of the claim, amounting to 943,541 KM. RTVFBiH has stated it will fulfill the payment obligation in accordance with the law.

The dispute stems from decades of unresolved relations caused by the inconsistent application of the Public RTV System Law and the failure to form the Public RTV Systems Corporation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. RTVFBiH noted that ten additional similar cases are currently pending in court, with a combined value of 11,352,088 KM, some of which date back to 2005.
