Sarajevo cultural festivals showcase regional film and Polish theatre
The Sarajevo cultural scene has recently highlighted significant cinematic and theatrical works. The 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival, held from August 14 to 21, featured a mix of regional premieres and international titles. One notable film, ‘Dom’ directed by Marijana Janković, follows a family's migration from Yugoslavia to Denmark in 1991, exploring the emotional costs of integration and sacrifice.
In the realm of theatre, the 8th Sarajevo Fest hosted the production ‘Nigdje sam/Desvanecimiento’ by Poland's Teatr Jana Kochanowskiego. Directed by Norbert Rakowski, the play utilizes a blend of dramatic and physical theatre to explore complex themes of human dignity and the right to a dignified death. The production, which drew inspiration from the case of Australian scientist Dr. David Goodall, was performed at the National Theatre Sarajevo with technical elements brought from Poland.
