Sarajevo families hold memorial for children killed in 1992 shelling
Members of the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of the Siege of Sarajevo 1992-1995, along with victims' families and representatives from the Municipality of Centar, held a memorial service in Hamdije Kreševljakovića Street to honor two children killed during the siege.
On September 12, 1992, 11-year-old Aida Grozdanić and 9-year-old Eldin Gvožđar were killed by a mortar shell fired from positions in Trebević. The incident occurred during what appeared to be a truce, a time when children had briefly come out of shelters to play.
Zdravka Gvožđar, Eldin’s mother, described the event as a “premeditated crime,” noting that those who survived the siege know who ordered the shelling. Fikret Grabovica, president of the Association, emphasized that no one has been held accountable for these crimes against the children of besieged Sarajevo, stating that the association will continue its pursuit of justice.
