Jean-Claude Van Damme opens first International Film Festival in Niš
The first International Film Festival in Niš has officially opened at the Niš Fortress Summer Stage. The event was inaugurated by Belgian actor Jean-Claude Van Damme, who participated in the regional premiere of his film, “The Gardener”. Van Dam praised the hospitality of the citizens and the organization of the festival, noting that Serbia offers great potential for film production.
The festival features a program of 26 domestic and international films, including 12 premieres. Key screenings include “Guardian of the Saint George Icon” and “Mudbrick”. The event is organized by the Niš Cultural Center under the patronage of the city and the Serbian Ministry of Culture. The festival has established new awards, such as the “Danilo Bata Stojković” lifetime achievement award.
The launch of this new international event coincides with local discussions regarding the traditional “Film Meetings” festival, which has faced organizational disputes in recent years. The Niš festival aims for a broader concept, encompassing both cinematic achievements and acting roles.
