Sarajevo Film Festival Honors Béla Tarr with Student Film Program

The 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival (14‑21 August) will present a program titled “Posvećeno: Bela Tarr u Sarajevu.” The long‑term initiative celebrates the legacy of Hungarian director Béla Tarr (1955‑2026) by screening works of his former students from the Film Factory school in Sarajevo. The selection includes narrative, documentary and experimental titles from a new generation of authors, many of whom have shown at festivals such as Cannes, San Sebastián, Locarno, Rotterdam and Clermont‑Ferrand. Festival director Jovan Marjanović said the link among the filmmakers is not a shared aesthetic but a shared commitment to artistic freedom and authorial consistency. Tarr had close ties to the festival, receiving the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in 2013 and chairing the competition jury in 2014. Films in the program include “Drva za potpalu” (Portugal/Spain), “Naval Gays” (UK), “Jagnje” (Iceland/Sweden/Poland) and “Krila i tlo” (Serbia/North Macedonia).
