Sarajevo honors longtime Dayton councilman and completes Eternal Flame monument restoration

The Sarajevo City Council awarded Matt Joseph, a six‑term councilman from Dayton, the title of Honorary Citizen of Sarajevo. Mayor Samir Avdić highlighted Joseph’s long‑standing support for cultural exchanges, student programs and joint projects between the two cities, noting his role in initiatives such as concerts by the Sarajevo Philharmonic in Dayton and university collaborations.

Separately, the city completed extensive renovation work on the Eternal Flame monument, a national historic landmark. The project restored facades, decorative elements, lighting and the flame itself, improving long‑term protection of the site. The works were carried out by NEIMARI d.o.o. under supervision from IPSA Institute and the Federal Institute for Monument Protection, costing 105,051.96 KM.
