Sarajevo General Hospital to open first public palliative care unit

The General Hospital Sarajevo 'Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš' is set to open the city's first public palliative care department. The facility is designed to support patients in the terminal stages of illness and provide assistance to their families.

Initially, the department will operate with 20 beds, with plans to expand capacity to 40 beds as conditions allow. Dr. Lejla Vidović, the medical director of the hospital, will serve as the head of the department during its initial organizational phase. The initiative was spearheaded by the hospital's director, Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović, in response to the observed needs of critically ill patients.
