Sarajevo hosts 30th international junior tennis tournament
The 30th international junior tennis tournament, ‘Open RTC Barcelona 1899 – Sarajevo 2026’, is set to begin in Sarajevo, featuring young athletes from 25 different countries. As a first-category event in the Tennis Europe calendar, it is one of only seven such tournaments in Europe and the only one of its kind in the region.
During a press conference, Kenan Magoda, the Minister of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton, emphasized the tournament's importance as a promotional event for Bosnia and Herzegovina. He called for increased systemic support from all levels of government to ensure the long-term sustainability of the event. Haris Kafedžić, President of the Board of TK Tenis Pro 1996, noted that the tournament has grown significantly and attracts some of the best European players under the age of 16.
Tea Kovačević, a prominent Bosnian tennis player and former winner of the tournament, highlighted the value of such high-level competitions for the development of young talent. The main matches will be held at the CSR Koševo tennis courts.
