FK Borac sanctioned by UEFA for discriminatory fan behavior
UEFA has imposed significant disciplinary sanctions on FK Borac Banja Luka following their match against Vikingur in the Conference League. The club faces a total fine of approximately 37,500 to 39,500 euros due to multiple infractions, including the improper conduct of the team, the use of pyrotechnics, and the insulting of a match official by staff member Bogoljub Zeljković, who was fined 2,000 euros.
Most notably, the club was sanctioned for racist and/or discriminatory behavior by its supporters, which reportedly involved chanting and displaying banners related to war criminal Ratko Mladić. As a result, UEFA has activated a previously suspended disciplinary measure, requiring the partial closure of 500 seats on the east stand for Borac's next home UEFA match. Additionally, a fine of 30,000 euros was issued for the discriminatory behavior, and a further closure of 800 seats on the east stand has been ordered for a subsequent home match, though this measure is conditionally suspended for two years.
