Sarajevo Film Festival opens 32nd edition with Paweł Pawlikowski

The 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) has officially commenced, transforming the city into a major regional cinematic hub. The festival opened with the screening of ‘Fatherland’ (Očevina) by Oscar-winning director Paweł Pawlikowski, a historical drama set in 1949 Germany.

Key highlights of the event include various premieres across competitive programs, such as the Slovenian film ‘Everything is Not Right with You’ and the documentary ‘Mountain’ (Planina). The festival also features a Student Forum, organized by the Western Balkans Youth Laboratory and funded by the European Union, which brings together over ten young filmmakers and students from the region to foster cultural cooperation and professional networking.

Celebrities and regional stars have graced the red carpet, including Croatian actors Goran Bogdan and Marija Škaričić, as well as international figures like Diego Luna and Emily Watson. Beyond screenings, the festival serves as a platform for industry discussions, masterclasses, and regional integration through film.
