Sarajevo National Theater hosts public arts program at Susan Sontag Square

The National Theater Sarajevo (NPS) is hosting various performances at Susan Sontag Theater Square as part of its special program, ‘Kultura na ulice!’ (Culture to the Streets!). The initiative, supported by the Government of Sarajevo Canton, aims to bring professional art and culture closer to citizens through free public events.

Recent performances include a concert by the Benin Mujkić Quartet, which presented a style termed ‘Balkan Neo-Soul,’ blending Balkan melodies with modern jazz, hip hop, and groove. The quartet, featuring Benin Mujkić, Dino Mangafić, Osman Abdelmukar, and Jasmin Avdagić, used the event to preview material from their upcoming album.

Additionally, the Sarajevo War Theatre (SARTR) produced the performance ‘Tri boje cvekle’ (Three Colors of Beetroot). Authored by Nejra Babić and directed by Irena Popović Dragović, the production is an opera for vocal-instrumental ensemble, electronics, and household appliances. The piece explores themes of loss, grief, and finding one's voice through various musical forms ranging from Renaissance music to post-minimalist repetition.
