Sarajevo organizations mark International White Cane Day

In observance of International White Cane Day, various organizations in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, held educational events and walks to raise awareness about visual impairment.

The Association of the Blind USKA conducted an educational session at Dubovac Primary School for students in grades one through four. The program introduced children to Braille, speech software, smartphone accessibility, and the role of guide dogs. Students participated in demonstrations of movement techniques using white canes and guide dogs.

Additionally, the Sports Association of Blind and Visually Impaired Persons of Sarajevo Canton organized a traditional walk titled ‘Gledate nas, a da li nas vidite?’ (You see us, but do you see us?). The event included local officials, such as the Mayor of Centar Municipality, Srđan Mandić, and focused on the importance of removing architectural barriers to improve accessibility in public spaces for the visually impaired.
