Sarajevo Ranked Cheapest European City for Weekend Trips in 2026
A British postal‑service price survey ranked Sarajevo, Bosnia‑Herzegovina’s capital, as the most affordable European city for a weekend getaway in 2026. The City Cost Barometer compared 50 destinations on 12 typical tourist expenses for two people, estimating a total cost of about €288 in Sarajevo – roughly a third of the €851 required for Oslo, the continent’s priciest city in the study.
The low price reflects cheap accommodation, public transport, meals and museum tickets, with a typical dinner for two and wine costing around €73. Travelers are drawn to the city’s Ottoman‑Austro‑Hungarian heritage, historic bazaar and vibrant café scene, all offered at budget‑friendly rates. Oslo, by contrast, topped the list for highest costs across all categories.
The findings highlight a broader shift toward Eastern European capitals, such as Sarajevo, as value‑focused alternatives for tourists seeking cultural experiences without premium prices.
