Sarajevo teacher launches humanitarian campaign for cancer treatment

The staff of the Nafija Sarajlić Elementary School in Sarajevo has launched a humanitarian fundraising campaign to support teacher Ermin Uzeirbegović in his fight against advanced lung cancer.

Uzeirbegović has been diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer, specifically an adenocarcinoma of the right lung, which has metastasized to the lymph nodes and bones, including the vertebrae and the eleventh rib. Molecular analysis revealed an EGFR gene mutation, making the targeted oncological therapy osimertinib medically indicated.

Because the required therapy must be self-funded, the school is appealing to colleagues, other educational institutions, and the general public for financial assistance. The funds will cover the medication, regular oncological check-ups, laboratory and radiological tests, and other related treatment costs. A charity event, ‘Večer za Ermina’, was also organized to support the cause.
