The conflict between the two groups has spanned approximately 22 years and has been marked by numerous legal investigations, armed clashes, and violence. Reports indicate that between 2004 and 2017, at least 13 people lost their lives due to the ongoing hostility.

Prior to the Ankara meeting, the Saral family held a large-scale gathering in Sürmene, Trabzon, attended by approximately 4,000 people. This event included prominent figures such as Presidential Advisor Oktay Saral and Of Mayor Salim Salih Sarıalioğlu, focusing on themes of unity and family bonds.
